Patients who are looking for non-surgical relief of pain from conditions such as “pinched nerves” or “herniated discs” or from failed medical treatment often find relief with Spinal Decompression Therapy (SDT). In addition, patients suffering from conditions such as bulging discs, sciatica, stenosis, facet syndrome, degenerative disc disease or extremity pain have been successfully treated with this type of therapy approach.
SDT is provided by a computer controlled traction table. This FDA approved device is designed to decompress spinal joints, principally the discs, sufficiently to create a negative pressure that allows the displaced disc to reposition and improve fluid flow to the injured tissues. The improved fluid flow provides the nutrients for the disc to heal.
The process starts with a free consultation with Dr. Guy. If decompression is appropriate, Dr. Guy proceeds to perform a complete history and thorough exam before starting SDT. Sessions of SDT can vary in length, but typically last between 30 to 45 minutes. During this time additionally therapy, exercise instructions, heat and muscle stimulation are provided. It is unusual to experience any side effects from treatment but typically they are mild and limited.
One comprehensive study demonstrated an 86% improvement rate following 20 sessions of Spinal Decompression for patients with one or more disc herniations.
